Stingray Updates
MONDAY'S MEET WAS A SUCCESS!!!
We WON the meet!!!! Thank you to everyone for your patience during that meet and for stepping up to help when the other team didn't have enough volunteers! You made our team look REALLY good and I was proud! We had to end the meet early because of lightning. Normally, we would just delay a bit and wait out the storm, but the radar showed lots more lightning headed our way and it seemed that we may have to wait too long to restart. Per league rules, a meet can be considered "complete" (and not need to have a make up meet scheduled) once backstroke has started. So, we were lucky enough to have been far enough along to have the meet count as "complete"!
A few updates this week:
1. SWIM A THON IS TOMORROW!
We are planning to have our annual "Swim A Thon" on Thursday, 6/12/25, during each of our scheduled practices!
7:30-8:30am 11 and Older Swimmers
8:30-9:15am 10 and Younger Swimmers
6:00-7:00pm All ages that are not able to attend morning practice (not for those swimmers who just want to sleep in!!)
We will need parents to help count laps at each session! Please stay and help, if you can! You'll have a seat in the shade, I promise!
UNLESS you have a swimmer in both age groups, or you have previously discussed a special circumstance with one of the coaches, please, PLEASE attend the practice that is designated for your swimmer's age group.
WHAT IS A SWIM A THON?
The Swim A Thon is the ONLY fundraiser we have for the Sharpstown Stingrays Swim Team each year! Swimmers are encouraged to ask family and friends to "pledge" or "donate" on their behalf. They will then swim as many lengths (laps) of the pool as they possibly can during practice and collect the money from their donors. The money is then turned it in to the team as we attempt to raise money for new tents and other equipment for the Stingrays!
This fundraiser is our attempt to keep team registration dues as low as possible while still offering the highest quality experience for everyone. Another portion of this money is used to help "scholarship" a few swimmers each season who otherwise might not be able to participate with the team. We also use the funds to purchase/replace equipment such as stopwatches, tents, and kickboards!
So, start sweet-talking the grandparents and favorite Aunts and Uncles along with friends and neighbors who might want to support your swimmer's awesome swim team! There are prizes for the swimmers who gather the most donations for the team!
2. Please declare for next Monday's meet (June 16)! All meets for the rest of the season are open and ready for you to declare now! Please do so as soon as you can!
Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!
Coach Tammy
